The Lesson in Failure

I hate failing and yet I have gratitude for the lesson that failure brings and sometimes even the gift it turns out to be. We have had 5 days of sustained below freezing weather. Average temperature was around 22 degrees. All of my ranunculus beds were covered with frost cloth in low tunnels. I thought they would be good. But they are frozen beyond what I believe will bounce back. Prior to this cold snap I had set a reminder to check the weather and beef up the coverage. But I ignored that reminder when it came up. I don’t have a good reason why I did that but I know that I will never ignore it again.

I am frustrated about the financial set back I will have should I decide to invest in new corms for a spring planting. I had so wanted to keep expenses low this season and was very excited about growing all my ranunculus from my saved corms. Not only was it going to be a money saving experiment but it was going to prove how well my corm storage had worked over the summer.

In the end, I am hoping a few may have made it but overall, I am sure I will need to invest in order to save my early season revenue plans. One thing is for sure, farming is a humbling experience.
